Production Manager

Naval Ship Management (NSM) is a Joint Venture between Babcock and UGL and currently has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Production Manager to join the NSM team based in Sydney.

The Production Manager is responsible for the execution of maintenance activities in a safe manner by planning, managing and controlling the personnel and materials on the facility to ensure production activities to achieve timely performance, compliance with customer requirements, contractual obligation and maximum efficiency.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Contribute to a “Safety First” culture through demonstrating “felt leadership” and participation in HSE initiatives

  • Provide leadership and direction to all team members (direct & indirect), so that all employees are engaged with the business, understand and adopt NSM’s values, strategy and plans and are motivated to achieve their objectives and improve the business

  • Work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands

  • Prepare and update the project risk register

  • Prepare weekly progress reports and present weekly project dashboard

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships of trust and understanding with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally

  • Attend site meetings with senior management to discuss progress of project, HSE compliance and other project issues

  • Liaise with subcontractors for resolution of site technical production matters as required

  • Attend progress meetings, safety meetings and contractor meetings providing advice and direction as required.

  • Ensure all production work is carried out to the approved drawings and specifications and that correct work practices are engaged at all times

  • Ensure efficient scheduling, planning and labour resource management

  • Review project master schedule to optimise manning levels and timely completion of contract works

  • Review subcontractors progress payment claims and assist the Assistant Production Manager in evaluation of subcontractors’ variation claims and estimates for emergent works

  • Implement and maintain a continuous improvement program for site production activities


About You

This role will align with an experienced tertiary qualified Production Manager that ideally has a proven track record of delivery within a complex marine environment and possess excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. Additionally you will be a confident team player that has a passion for identifying and driving improvement activities and enjoys working within a team environment but can also work autonomously as required. You will have exceptional time management and organisational experience coupled with an ability to prioritise, plan and organise your workload and timeframes with a strong attention to detail. The successful candidate will have high-level computer skills and a proven ability to adapt and learn new systems and processes quickly.
