We are currently seeking a professional Naval Architect to join our business, reporting to the Senior/Principal Naval Architect. This role will provide Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering consultancy solutions across a number of market sectors including super yachts, fishing vessels, ferries, workboats, tugs, barges. You will also assist Babcock (NZ) in its contract commitments in providing the in-service support for the Royal New Zealand Navy and other projects for NZ Defence Force.
About the Role:
We are looking for someone who has a strong background in the marine industry, with good experience of practising Naval Architecture. You will have experience working in a multidisciplinary design office where you use your skills and CAD tools to produce analysis, calculations, reports, modelling and drawings. You will be familiar with working in a project based environment and you will be experienced in delivering projects on time, in budget and to specification. You will have:
- Degree or equivalent in Naval Architecture (or associated discipline).
- Able to demonstrate track record on delivering and managing naval architecture outputs
- Minimum 3-4 years relevant experience in the marine sector
- Hold a current membership with an associated engineering body/council
- Be a proficient user of standard applications, bespoke Naval Architect software (NAPA experience is desirable.) and CAD software packages - including 3D modelling, analysis and drafting.

Projects may involve site visits to vessels and clients in the local Auckland region and occasionally further away in NZ or abroad. You will be based in MID’s Auckland offices, located in Babcock’s dockyard facility within the Royal NZ Navy’s, Devonport Naval Base on Auckland’s North Shore. This location is ideally positioned for ferry connections to the city centre and for commuter routes to the North Shore.
