Naval Ship Management (NSM) is a Joint Venture between Babcock and UGL and currently has an exciting newly created opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Lead Technical Author to join our LHD program based in Garden Island NSW.

This is a key role in developing and managing work instructions in support of work packages including planned maintenance, corrective maintenance, urgent defects and certified items for LHD ACPC. The Lead Technical Author ensures that all maintenance work instructions comply with the requirements of the N4 Library.

The Lead Technical Author has a range of duties that include but not limited to:

  • Lead and develop a team Technical Authors

  • Develop and implement a Work Instruction (WI) framework to support a variety of maintenance support needs

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Coach and mentor the team to ensure a high standard of work is always maintained

  • Identify opportunities for continual improvement and implement initiatives

  • Responsible for the creation of WI utilising AMPS

  • Identify key Scope steps from relevant system drawings, manuals and associated documentation for inclusion into WI data packs and attachments

  • Identify job task material requirements to conduct planned and corrective maintenance for inclusion in the Task Material List (TML)

  • Understand and adhere to the N4 Library Technical Regulatory Framework

  • Audit AMPS on a regular basis to ensure that tasks are closed out as per contractual and operational needs

  • Conduct tasking as directed by the Maintenance Support Manager

 

About You

This role will align with an experienced Technical Author that has a proven track record of delivery within a complex defence or technical engineering environment. You will ideally have supervisory and leadership experience and have an excellent interpersonal, communications and stakeholder’s engagement skillset. Additionally you will be a confident team player that has a passion for identifying and driving change and enjoys working within a team environment but can also work autonomously as required. You will have exceptional time management and organisational experience coupled with an ability to prioritise, plan and organise your workload and timeframes with a strong attention to detail. Ideally, the successful candidate will have naval or defence experience coupled with a passion to drive and develop their professional career.
