Commercial and Subcontract Manager

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Commercial and Subcontract Manager to join our high performing commercial team. This position will be based in our state of the art Australasian Headquarters in the Adelaide CBD and our Osborne facility and will require some travel interstate and overseas.

The Commercial and Subcontract Manager position will provide commercial and subcontract expertise to Babcock Australasia Marine, Land and Aviation business units. The role will provide guidance and support with contract performance, business development and company operations ensuring that the commercial interests of the company are optimised whilst ensuring contractual and subcontract obligations and associated commercial risks are managed adequately.


In order to succeed in this role, you will be able to:

  • Provide commercial, contract, subcontracts and supply-chain support to Marine, Land and Aviation business units, ensuring compliance with business operating policies, processes and procedures

  • Preparation and review of contractual documents (for example contracts and subcontracts, non-disclosure, consultancy, teaming and labour hire agreements)

  • Management of all commercial aspects of bids and tenders (including but not limited to review of terms and conditions, risk identification and assessment, corporate approvals, legal and insurance interface, response to invitation to tender)

  • Support the commercial and subcontract aspects of business winning from opportunity identification, proposal development and writing through to contract negotiations and execution

  • Ensure legal and regulatory requirements are addressed to support business winning and contract performance

  • Provide guidance and leadership in all commercial and contract matters throughout project lifecycles to ensure commercial governance is followed

  • Provide subject matter expertise in contract management practices, including best practice commercial/risk policies and procedures, project management, claims management, reporting and dispute resolution

About You

This role will align with an experienced commercial professional that has a proven record of accomplishment of delivery within a complex defence environment and will have supporting degree level qualifications with an associated discipline. Additionally you will be a confident team player that has a passion for identifying and driving change and enjoys working within a team environment but can also work autonomously as required. You will have exceptional time management and organisational experience coupled with an ability to prioritise, plan and organise your workload and timeframes with a strong attention to detail. The successful candidate will have excellent working experience and holistic knowledge of the Australian defence industry.
