About the role?

As a successful Assistant Chief Engineer, you will be provide strategic leadership in ensuring that design change and platform configuration that meets the best need of RZNZ requirements.

You will establish clear policies and instructions to ensure continued drive to ensure that the product baseline meets operational, regulatory and capability requirements.

The Assistant Chief Engineer (Capability and Design) reports to the Chief Engineer

  • Ensure the best Design and Engineering practices are being followed whilst meeting required codes and standards; regulations and legislation.
  • Provide design and thorough life engineering subject matter expertise to support and improve RNZN availability and resilience
  • As support to the Chief Engineer and in particular as the responsible lead for the technical governance of design outputs; provide engineering subject matter expertise across the enterprise
  • Ensure platform configuration and design baselines and margins, maintained, assessed and optimised
  • Provide leadership of the configuration and ILS teams as well as to the wider COE as a key member of the COE leadership team


Why you?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working leader who exhibits the following behaviours:

  • Engineering Degree - Chartered Professional Engineer Status
  • Experienced Design Manager within  the maritime environment
  • Expert knowledge of regulatory frameworks applicable to marine vessels, including NZ and Navy fleets
  • Knowledge of naval operations and engineering principles
  • Project Management experience - desirable
  • Track record of achievement of delivering operational support and availability projects in the marine industry
  • Proactive approach to problem solving, and the ability to work under pressure in response to tight deadlines
