We currently have an exciting and newly created full time permanent opportunity for experienced and professional Naval Architect to join our high performing marine business.
About the Role
Reporting to the Program Manager the Naval Architect is responsible for ensuring the ships are fit for purpose and able to operate in a safe and reliable way and that vessel designs comply with local and international regulations and safety standards. This includes assessing any defects, deviations or modifications that arise or are specified against the original design during the platform’s service life.
Key responsibilities are as follows:
Assessing defects, deviations and modifications against the original design requirements for acceptability or feasibility;
Producing detailed designs for modification proposals or defect rectification tasks to
platforms within area of responsibility using specialist computer software;
Developing and utilising test procedures including computer modelling;
Interpreting and analysing data and test results;
Ensuring adherence to appropriate health and safety legislation/standards;
Identifying the need for, and supervising, vessel repair;
Writing reports and documentation;
Training & mentoring to develop team capabilities;
Performing stability analyses of working vessels;
Evaluating vessels’ performance during shakedown and sea trials.
You will be a qualified Engineer or Naval Architect with proven experience in a field relevant to the sustainment of surface ships. You will bring with extensive engineering experience and a record of development, management and compliance with an engineering governance structure. Collaborative and team oriented, you will have strong written and verbal communication skills. Taking responsibility for the technical integrity of solutions, you will hold status as a delegated design authority. Chartered Professional Engineer status or the eligibility to obtain this will be highly regarded.
The successful candidate must hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
