National Technical Manager – Qantas GSE

Babcock is presently delivering an exciting and diverse contract to support the Qantas Group's fleet of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), which comprises more than 10,000 assets spread across 60 locations across Australia including Qantas' domestic, regional, freight, catering and engineering operations, as well as Jetstar. Working with Qantas as its trusted asset management partner, Babcock is delivering a customised and innovative asset management solution to drive reliability and efficiency improvements of equipment and provide significant long term capability and cost benefits.

To support this partnership with an iconic Australian company, Babcock Australasia are seeking to engage a National Technical Manager in order to join our team in Sydney. Reporting to the General Manager the role of National Technical Manager will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, supervision and inspirational management to all team members (direct & indirect) and ensure a high quality solution is delivered which meets customers' expectations and complies with contractual obligations whilst achieving the optimum business outcomes for all internal and external outcomes. 

The key accountabilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Ensure a safe work place in line with Babcock and Qantas HSE requirements.

  • Lead the asset management team; including establishing and maintaining a positive workplace culture that values safety, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure alignment of asset management business objectives and Asset Management Plans (AMPs), information systems and resources in alignment with ISO55001.

  • Ensure asset availability meets KPIs and SLA targets.

  • Continually review GSE asset reliability and utilisation.

  • Develop and manage the maintenance approach for cost and capability optimisation including balancing unscheduled, scheduled and condition based maintenance.

  • Optimise the maintenance strategy and approach for GSE.

  • Provide expertise and advice to the GSE maintenance operations and to the Qantas business unit clients.

  • Review, Improve and manage  the capability lifecycle of all assets

  • Responsible for the major inspection (MI) program ensuring compliance to legislation

  • Drive planning outcomes to deliver manageable outcomes for the workshop

  • Support safety investigations with technical and fault analysis

  • Implement condition based monitoring on critical assets.

  • Ensure that customer service delivery is maintained at the optimum level.

  • Establishment and maintenance of policies and procedures relating to the asset management function.

About You

This role will align with an experienced senior manager that has leadership experience in a customer facing environment within manufacturing, defence, aviation or technical engineering organisation across multi- geographically environments. You will be tertiary qualified within an associated discipline and have extensive understanding of leading and managing teams within mobile equipment management encompassing capability and optimisation. Additionally you will be a confident team player that has a passion for identifying and driving change and someone that enjoys leading, managing and working within a customer centric team environment. You will have exceptional time management and organisational experience coupled with an ability to prioritise, plan and organise your work load and timeframes with a strong attention to detail. The successful candidate will have high level computer skills and have a proven ability to adapt and learn new systems and processes quickly. Familiarity of Airport/GSE equipment within either a Defence or Civil background would be advantageous
