Marine Industrial Design (MID) is a New Zealand based Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering design consultancy with a reputation for providing practical and proven marine engineering solutions to our clients. As a subsidiary of Babcock (NZ) Limited, MID complements and supports the organisation’s commercial and naval engineering capabilities within New Zealand.
Reporting to the Manager, your role will involve providing marine and mechanical drafting design services to a vibrant range of projects across a number of market sectors including superyachts, fishing vessels, ferries, workboats, tugs, barges. You will also assist Babcock(NZ)in its contract commitments to providing the in service support for the Royal New Zealand Navy and other projects for NZ Defence Force.
You will use your technical skills and marine related experience to provide 2D and 3D design and modelling for practical engineering solutions. You may have experience in laser scanning and processing of point clouds to 3D models.
We are looking for someone who has a background in the marine industry, with experience of drafting design for marine based solutions. You will have experience working in a multidisciplinary Design Office where you have used skills and CAD tools to produce 2D and 3D modelling and drawings. You will be familiar with working in a project based environment and you will be experienced in delivering projects on time, in budget and to specification. You will have:
- Minimum 2-3 years relevant experience in the marine related areas
- Be a proficient user of Microsoft applications and CAD software packages - including 3D modelling, analysis and drafting.

Projects may involve site visits to vessels and clients in the local Auckland region and occasionally further away in NZ or abroad. You will be based in MID’s Auckland offices, located in Babcock’s dockyard facility within the Royal NZ Navy’s, Devonport Naval Base on Auckland’s North Shore. This picturesque location is ideally positioned for ferry connections to the city centre and for commuter routes to the North Shore.
