Assistant Chief Engineer (Capability and Design)

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Chief Engineer to join our Centre of Engineering leadership team.

About the role:

As the Assistant Chief Engineer (Capability and Design)you will provide leadership and functional governance of engineering and technical activities, ensuring platform capability meets current and future demand. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you will;

  • Provide inspirational leadership of the design delivery; platform configuration and ILS capabilities within the Babcock NZ Centre of Engineering.  You will actively manage delivery of outputs to meet the scheduled requirements

  • Ensure governance of relevant engineering process, across the product/service lifecycle to ensure compliance with standards, policy, legislation and regulatory frameworks

  • Develop and gain approval for capital expenditure plans and programmes in order to deliver future operational needs to meet output, quality and cost targets consistent with business objectives and targets

  • Develop and maintain customer relationship, investigate customer satisfaction, identify issues and put in place systems and processes to resolve in order to maximise customer service

  • Champion and drive technology insertion into the business on behalf of both Babcock and our customer.

About you:

The successful candidate for this position will have similar experience in a position of this level, with demonstrable skills and qualification as outlined below;

  • Strong operational experience and advanced knowledge of marine engineering industry and global marketing challenges/opportunities in the sector

  • Significant experience in leading through-life design in marine engineering disciplines

  • Change management capability – provide leadership and direction, good communicator

  • Ability to rapidly develop strong customer relationships and influence senior members of the customer’s organisation in an engineering services environment

  • Sound business financial literacy, including ability to pro-activity manage and analyse P&L

  • Degree in Engineering from reputable institution

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CEng.)
